The Moose Jaw Wakamow Rotary Club members are gearing up for their annual banquet coming up next month, where they shine a light on volunteer efforts of local residents.

Organizers say they are currently looking for submissions from people who know someone who deserves praise for time they've spent helping others that could become the next recipients of the Global Service Above Self Awards.

"The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the idea of service and then to encourage and foster others to do that too," explained Sonja Susut, Chair of the committee. "This awards evening that we have is not open to Rotary members; we're trying to recognize other people who are going above and beyond in volunteering their time and efforts."

"We have two awards. One award is for a nominee that could be for a group or person or couple, who have fostered cross-cultural awareness or cultural integration in Moose Jaw. The other award is for a group, person or couple who have actively worked to enhance the quality of life in another country."

Anyone within the city can be nominated, but there is a short list of criteria to meet according to Susut.

"You have to have resided in Moose Jaw for at least two years, and the work that that they're doing must be completed within the last two years or is still ongoing."

If you're interested in nominating a friend or neighbor you can send a message to their Facebook page. Nominations close on Monday and the banquet will be held on April 9th.
