The Wakamow Valley Authority is sending out a safety reminder to all residents after a few incidents within the park.

Youth have been spotted diving into the river. This normally isn't breaking any rules; however, some people are choosing to jump from the bridges located in Wakamow Valley, and that is against the rules.

"Kids are jumping from the bridges, specifically more the Sioux Bridge - that's the one by the campground - and also it was noted that kids are jumping from off the Assiniboine Bridge and the Blackfoot Bridge, and those are the ones that are further up stream," explained Margaret Moran, CEO for the park.

Moran said it all boils down to safety, as there are too many risks to allow anyone to be jumping.

"It's probably about 8 to 10 feet at the very deepest, and when you're jumping off something with the height of 20 feet, I'm sure you'd hit the bottom. Also, the water is so murky, you can't see through the water, so you don't know if there's perhaps a hidden tree, so those are some of the dangers that could occur."

Moran also advises against swimming in the river because it hasn't been tested, although it's perfectly safe for canoeing and kayaking.
