Gardens for Guatemala is the most recent fundraiser to help support the Moose Jaw International Medical Mission to Guatemala.

The Medical Mission travels to Guatemala to provide health care to those who need it, and volunteers perform surgeries for those who can't afford it.

"We had a medical team that was there; they saw over six-hundred people during our week," explained Medical Mission volunteer and local Registered Nurse Jackie Wilson. "So we had five different practitioners, lots of local docs from here who went along, so that was really new for us last year and it was amazing. We also had our surgical team and we were able to do I think about thirty-five, thirty-six procedures."

Along with performing the procedures and providing treatments, they also have to secure their own equipment and transportation to the country, which is something they fundraise yearly for.

Their upcoming fundraiser is a bit different, as residents can tour around town in people's gardens as part of "Gardens for Guatemala."

The next and fourth mission to volunteer in rural Patzun, Guatemala will require a lot of fundraising, as they will move up from twenty-eight volunteers to now thirty-five plus volunteers.

"We have to thank the community for all the support they've given us throughout the years and their continued support. We really appreciate Moose Jaw and Regina - how far it's reached," Medical Mission volunteer and local Registered Nurse Melissa MacNeil said. "We just want to thank everybody."
