Volunteer firefighters in the province will now have expanded coverage under the Workers Compensation Board.

The government of Saskatchewan announced that 6,500 volunteer firefighters will have access to the same presumptive coverage as professional firefighters.

There are six additional cancers that were first introduced for professional firefighters in December. They are prostate, skin, breast, cervical and overian cancers and multiple myeloma.

Changes to the Workers Compensation Amendment act will come into force on the signing of the proclamation.

To apply for workers compensation, applicants will have to provide a diagnosis from a medical professional in support of their claim.
