Forty-one years ago, Terry Fox dipped his leg in the Atlantic Ocean in St. John’s, Nfld. and his Marathon of Hope began, to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research.

Although his journey ended in Thunder Bay and he would pass away shortly afterward from his second cancer diagnosis, Terry Fox’s legacy continues to live on throughout Canada.

Every September, Canadians walk or run in Terry’s memory and continue to raise funds for the Terry Fox Foundation.

To date, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised about $850 million for cancer research and has helped fund 46 science and research projects aimed at fighting cancer. In 2019-2020 alone, the Terry Fox Foundation invested $21.3 million into cancer research.

This year’s Terry Fox Run in Moose Jaw is taking place on Sept. 19 at the Kiwanis River Park in Wakamow Valley. Participants can register on the Terry Fox Foundation website. Check-in for the run is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

T-shirts are also being sold at the Wakamow Valley Farmer’s Market every Saturday until the run.

Donations to the Terry Fox Foundation can always be made at terryfox.org.
