There are only a few residents remaining at Valley View Centre, as residents are each moved into group care homes across the province.

Minister of Social Services Paul Merriman said they work on an individual plan for each resident.

He said they took all of these factors into account and that's why it's taken since 2012 to get all of them moved.

“First of all we started off (where we) started a few years ago with everybody, is we started with a person-centred plan, where each individual would have a plan with what their needs are, what their family wants, and what we as a government would be able to provide in terms of ongoing care,” said Merriman.

He said some of the residents have been living at the facility with their Valley View family for decades.

“We wanted to make sure we recognized that as well,” he said. “We have had people that were living in the same area of Valley View, we wanted to make sure they stayed together, if that was their wishes.”

Merriman said they took everything into account and that's why it's taken since 2012 to get all of them moved. They had to make individual adjustments for each resident.

“Sometimes they wanted to move closer to family, we’ve had openings in Saskatoon and Prince Albert,” he said. “We’ve had homes scattered across the province. A lot of them still wanted to maintain in Moose Jaw because that was their home community.”

The facility is slated for closure by the end of the year.
