Picketers for Unifor 594 were in Moose Jaw on Wednesday as well as several other communities throughout Saskatchewan as their dispute with Federated Co-op continues.

Regina refinery workers have been locked out since Dec. 5 over workers' pensions.

Picketers were outside the gas station at Thatcher Drive and Ninth Avenue North East and the station at First Avenue North West. This is the second time Unifor has taken the protest into the Moose Jaw area. On Feb. 10th, a barricade was set up at the bulk station just north of Moose Jaw and remained in place for a couple of days.

Unifor 594 president Kevin Bittman says they had picketers in Moose Jaw, Southey, Assiniboia, Shellbrook, Moosomin and the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities convention in Regina on Wednesday.

"Every one of those retailers owns Federated Co-op and, in return, own the Co-op refinery," Bittman said. "When we sit at the bargaining table we get told all the time that our profits are those of the retailers."

The provincial government-mandated 20-day mediation window with special mediator Vince Ready ended on March 10.

"We have filed our reports with the mediator, so it's up to the special mediator now to go over the data and come out with some recommendations," Bittman said. "So we are just waiting on that."
