It silently ticketed, overshadowed by the legalization of cannabis, but we are less than twelve months away from a federal election here in Canada.

While the official call has not been made, all plans point to October 21st, 2019 for the next vote and Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lannigan Member of Parliament Tom Lukiwski would like to keep his seat under the Conservative banner.

"I've been acclaimed by my riding association so I am the official candidate and I certainly intend to run one more time and I stress one more time because, win, lose or draw, this will be my last election," explain Lukiwski.

While he declined to predict the outcome of next year's election, Lukiwski says there's a feeling on change in Ottawa and a feeling of disappointment across Canada with the current Liberal government, adding that with cannabis now legal many swing votes that went to the Liberals in 2015 could come back to the Conservatives next fall.

"Now that it's a done deal, I don't think there's any putting the toothpaste back in the tube kind of situation so that is not an issue," said Lukiwski. "I think there is an opportunity to speak to younger Canadians and to try and outline effectively, our view and vision for a better Canada and I hope, we'll be able to attract many of those same people who went Liberal in 2015 on that issue alone."

There are many who suggest the Liberals were able to put distance between themselves and the Conservatives by making cannabis legislation a major issue for new, younger voters who had no established party ties.

So far Lukiwski is the only confirmed person running locally. The Green Party and the Liberal Party have no plans in place right now while the NDP are just waiting for the green light from their head office to host a nomination meeting.
