The Western College of Veterinarian Medicine in Saskatoon says the odds of a cow having triplets is roughly 1 in 100,000. For one farm outside of Shaunavon, they beat those odds with not one, but two sets of triplets being calved within the span of a week.

Oberle Farms is located roughly eight miles east of Shaunavon. Each year, they will have around 1,400 calves born each year, and it isn’t too uncommon for twins to be born, happening around 40-45 times a year.

On January 20th, a three-year-old Charolais cow had the first set of triplets. Then, this past Wednesday morning, an eight-year-old Charolais delivered another set of triplets.

“If someone would have ever said that we would get two in a week, let alone two in the same year, I'd have said no way,” said Kelly Oberle. “This is kind of really bizarre."

The mothers and the calves are doing well.
