Members of the Moose Jaw Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Moose Jaw met on Wednesday evening, to discuss and plan for the upcoming winter season. Executive Director of Tourism - Jacki L'Heureux Mason - says although we are not exactly known for our mild winters, that numbers don't drop off too much;

“People would be very surprised at the steady numbers that we get over the fall and the winter, and with the spa – I believe if you ask them they’ll tell you January is one of their busiest months. We really try to promote those winter activities; snowshoeing in Wakamow, cross-country skiing, all those kind of things. Very prairie type activities”.

When it comes to which of our cities attractions is the biggest draw during the winter, L’Heureux Mason says there are a few;

“Uniquely the spa starts to shine a lot during the winter because of the awesome experience of that outdoor pool. The tunnels are a draw every day, they’re open every single day and they are one of our anchors that we all know and love. But the fact that our downtown is walk-able is a huge draw to a lot of people”.

And although our winters are full of snow, wind and cold, those who choose to visit the friendly city often stick with outdoor activities;

“The fact that we do have both Crescent park as a nice, charming, manicured great place to walk during the winter, which is downtown” says L’Heureux Mason, “but the fact that we do have Wakamow which is an urban park that is a little less manicured, a little more wild, a little more authentic. It really does lend that opportunity to go skating, to go hiking.”

Former Saskatchewanderer; Andrew Hiltz, was also on hand. Since his time as the Saskatchewanderer, the province contacted Hiltz and created a position for him after viewing his online content. Hiltz is now Content Creation Specialist with Tourism Saskatchewan. He lead a presentation on his time touring the province, talking about his favourite stops, and some basic tips for businesses to use while interacting with customers on social media.
