#1 on our Top 10 Stories of 2017 list is the fight for curbside garbage collection.

The switch from back lane to curbside collection started with council's approval last spring but escalated as some councillors flip flop over the summer... resulting in the entire program being stopped in it's tracks. Municipal Operations Manager Darrin Stephanson.

"People take their waste fairly seriously. We knew changing peoples schedules and how they handle their waste would create some issues and concerns. Its just one of those things you have to work through".

"Right now things are in a holding pattern. It was referred to budget so in the coming weeks it's my hope that this will be revisited and we will have a final direction one way or another. We want to thank residents for their cooperation in the zones that have switched. We've seen an 18% pickup on efficiency when it comes to curbside vs back lane".

Despite the full roll out of the program being halted, some areas of the city did make the switch and the change to bi-weekly garbage collection was implemented. The remained of the program is expected to be re-considered with the 2018 budget talks.
