As we continue our look back at 2017 we return to August 10th.

What started as an ordinary summer day in Saskatchewan quickly changed as Brad Wall announced he was stepping away from politics after a decade as Saskatchewan's Premier.

The surprise announcement sent a shock wave across our province's political landscape, as Wall broke the news on a video posted to Facebook.

"Together with (my wife) Tami, I have decided that now is the time for renewal, for my party, for the government, for the province. It's time for me to retire from politics," said Wall.

Wall spent a total of 14 years as leader of the Saskatchewan Party and 10 years as premier. His tenure was marked by a sharp growth in population, a robust natural resource sector, and a personal popularity that saw Wall routinely rank as the most popular premier in the nation.

As Wall looked back on his time he office he did so with satisfaction.

"Every dream I've ever had in terms of a career, has come true, more than I would of ever imagined. I was just happy and honoured to be the MLA for Swift Current, then I got to do this other job for 10 years which has been remarkable."

Looking forward he feels the key areas the province needs to continue to focus on are resource management, a healthy tax structure for business, and the global nature of farming.

"(In) agriculture we need to continue to engage with the world. Intentionally, we've undertaken more trade mission, I think more than any government before us, those aren't always that popular. Some refer to them as junkets, but if you talk to the industry, especially in Asia where the growth has been, those governments want to talk to another governments as well as the producer."

Walls successor will be named in January at the Sask Party leadership Convention in Saskatoon.
