He didn’t say yes, but he didn’t say no.

It’s been nearly seven years since Moose Jaw's mayor, Fraser Tolmie, pursued the nomination for the Conservative Party’s Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan riding.

With current MP Tom Lukiwski announcing that he would not be seeking re-election, questions remain whether Tolmie would be interested in pursuing the nomination once again.

In a recent interview, Tolmie did not confirm or deny his interest in the nomination.

“If there is an announcement that is coming later on, then I will advise the media, but right now I want to focus on council issues,” Tolmie said.

Tolmie announced his interest in the Conservative Party’s nomination in 2014 for the newly formed Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan riding for the 2015 federal election.

Lukiwski, who was the MP of the now-defunct Regina-Lumsden-Lake Centre riding, was controversially acclaimed as the candidate for Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan.

Following Lukiwski’s nomination in 2014, Tolmie challenged the results claiming "breaches in policy and procedure going back to the founding meeting in November" when the local association was formed.

The Conservative Party has since rejected those claims and has said the only nomination papers they received before the nomination deadline was from Lukiwski’s campaign.

Since then, Tolmie said as mayor he’s had a good working relationship with Lukiwski.

“As my role as mayor, I've been able to reach out to him on numerous occasions when we've had some files that we've needed to be dealt with in Ottawa, and he's been most helpful and so he's represented us very well,” he said.

Between the ridings of Regina-Lumsden-Lake Centre and Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan, Lukiwski has been an MP since 2004.
