Moose Jaw’s mayor is weighing in on the disagreement between residents of apartments in a downtown building and the business in that building.

Last Monday, city council approved a motion to prepare a report to executive committee to re-evaluate the issuance of a business license for areas of the city that are mixed use in the commercial district.

There is a current dispute between a business owner in the Commercial District and neighbouring residents, explained Mayor Fraser Tolmie in a statement to media. The matter is being sorted out through the legal system and the City will respect that process. However, this issue has exposed the fact that we do not have a current Bylaw that addresses activity in mixed use (business/residential) buildings.

Tolmie said there is the potential for further residential development in the commercial district as laid out in the 2017 Downtown Local Area Plan.

He said he is looking forward to the city administration’s report on the proper way to move forward in the best interests of the City of Moose Jaw.
