The winter Solstice began today at 4:02 this morning, marking the shortest day of the year and the official first day of winter in the northern hemisphere.

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, we are in for a cold and snowy winter.

Southern Saskatchewan can expect to be on the “Snow Train” as a succession of storms will “chug” through the prairies.

The snowiest time is expected in late December, mid-February, the late February into early March.

Temperatures are expected to be below normal for the western part of the prairies with the coldest being late December, late January and late February.
