Thought cheese was already expensive? Well, like most other things, the price of dairy products is predicted to increase by at least 8.4% in 2022.

The Canadian Dairy Commission suggested the increase for farm gate milk products to offset the rising production costs due to the pandemic. Farms have seen price increases in feed, fuel, energy, and fertilizer, and the revenues need to follow.

The prices are dated to go up on February 1st of next year. That will be finalized once it's approved by provincial authorities in December.

However, the price increase won't stop at 8.4%. Products like cheese that use a large amount of milk can see a price increase of up to 15% and butter can see an increase of about 12%.

According to the CDC, this is the highest price hike in over 50 years.

This situation also has a growing concern of Canadian companies resorting to buying and illegally carrying Milk products into Canada from the United States for a cheaper price.
