The recent sentencing of Larry Nassar, the former Michigan State sports and USA Gymnastics physician, to up to 175 years in prison for sexually abusing patients has a Canadian advocate calling for Canada to take note.

NHL alumni, advocate and abuse survivor Theo Fleury watched the proceedings south of the border with great interest, saying it should be an example for our country.

"All of us advocates are out there on a daily basis fighting for stricter laws, stiffer sentences and it's a perfect example of where we need to get to."

Fleury added that he considers Canada's courts as a legal system and not a justice system, and has previously stated that Canada is "Disneyland for pedophiles".
