Volunteer Firefighters are an essential part of smalltown communities throughout the province. Without them, many fire departments would not exist.

Fire Chief for the Assiniboia Fire Rescue, Chuck Rust, explained why they do it “I feel they want to be involved in the community and to help other people”

Rust also added that these volunteers receive the same training as their career Firefighter counterparts, saying “we send firefighters off to spring and fall training schools, put on by the Saskatchewan Volunteer Firefighters Association”.

The Volunteer Firefighters rely on donations and will be hosting a fundraiser in Assiniboia Saturday evening.
