A strike mandate has been reached by the Saskatchewan Teachers Federation with a vote of 95%. The vote was held earlier this month and the results released Monday show teachers have decided that job action is the next step in their contract negotiations with the Government-Trustee Bargaining Committee.

According to the government's committee, their offer of a 5.5% wage increase over three years would have given Saskatchewan teachers the second highest salary in Western Canada while the STF wants a 12% raise in one year.

The federation says they plan on giving 48 hours strike notice before their members do anything. They could pull teachers off the job and put them on the picket lines but they could also use targeted strike action like in 2000 when teachers only worked during school hours.  Many extra curricular events were cancelled as a result.
