Tangles Hair and Beauty Salon is brand new to Moose Jaw, but the owner/operator isn't.

Tangles Hair and Beauty Salon offers full hair services, along with body waxing, sugaring, lash services and laser services such as laser hair removal.

Destinee Peter did her growing up in Regina and Moose Jaw, attending Peacock Collegiate for a time.  She's been busy growing her business and her brand in Regina recently but when an opportunity came knocking in Moose Jaw, she answered the call.

"There was a salon in my dad's building (Caribou Auto Body) and the previous owner moved on so, I just thought I'd help my dad out by filling in the salon that was already here," Destinee said with a smile.

"I've owned Tangles Hair and Beauty Salon in Regina for over 7 years now.  I have a talented team of 6 stylists and technicians.  We do full hair services, offering colouring, full body waxing and sugaring, lash extensions, laser services such as laser hair removal as well as lash lifts and tints.  We welcome women, men and children and, just recently, we expanded to Moose Jaw where we'll start off by offering hair services and facial waxing in this location," Destinee explained.

Located at 1325 Broadway Avenue in Regina, the local shop is located at 250 Caribou Street West, next door to Caribou Auto Body.

"I didn't plan on expanding so soon but it just kind of happened," Destinee says.  "I've been modernizing the new salon a bit to match my salon, our brand, in Regina, to feel and look more modern.  I am proud to be Indigenous so with that, circles and the colour purple are included in my brand so, I added circles, purple and mirrors - I'm so proud of my culture," Destinee beamed.

And, Destinee brings with her a number of accolades, including 2020 International Indigenous Hair Stylist of the Year which she won at the International Indigenous Fashion Week.

"That award just made me feel very good about my career - just having somebody tell me that my work is amazing...I take a lot of pride in my work and that award gave me such a warm feeling," Destinee said.

Destinee also won the 2020 Indigenous Youth Business Award of Excellence from NACCA, the National Aboriginal Capital Corporation Association and the 2019 Entrepreneurial Award from SIEF, the Saskatchewan Indian Equity Foundation.

Destinee credits her dad for her strong work ethic and her sisters for letting her cut their hair when they were kids!

Tangles Hair and Beauty Salon has been operating in Regina for over 7 years and is expanding into Moose Jaw. "Yes, I come from a big family, so I have lots of sisters and brothers...my four sisters and I are really close, and I got to do their hair when I was growing up.  I've always had a passion for the hair industry.  I learned how to braid at a very young age - my mom's curtains were always braided and my Barbie dolls and blankets and then I started experimenting with scissors on my sisters," Destinee said with a laugh.

A pleasant, uplifting experience is what Destinee promises if you book an appointment at Tangles Hair and Beauty Salon.

"I really like making my clients feel beautiful - better than how they felt when they came in.  I really get to know my clients and really enjoy them and building relationships," Destinee told us.

"I want everyone to feel welcome - men, women and all cultures.  We will have a warm, welcoming environment with a positive atmosphere for all of our clients," Destinee promises.
