It's important to pay attention and stay focused at all times when driving, but with school starting, Moose Jaw City Police are asking residents to take extra care in school zones as children return to school.

The beginning of the school year can be exciting for elementary school students, so it's important to watch out for kids darting into the street.

Slowing down to 40 km/h is not only safe and beneficial for the children, but drivers also.

Constable Kyle Cunningham is a member of the community programs and safety unit, and reminds everyone that the school zones at high schools should be followed too.

"We see peak times of traffic for high school students around that 12 o'clock time, and a lot of kids drive now so they'll be leaving then as well as after school at that 3:15/3:30 [pm] mark, a lot more traffic will be leaving high schools," said Cunningham. "So those students need to be mindful of their driving actions too."

Cunningham and other officers will be patrolling the area to watch for those violating the speed limit, and photo radar will continue to operate.
