SGI, along with the Government of Saskatchewan is reminding all drivers to take care on Saskatchewan's roads this upcoming Labour Day weekend.

According to statistics provided by SGI the risk of collision doubles on holiday weekends due to an increase in motorists out on the roads.

"Whenever long weekends happen, there's typically more traffic out on Saskatchewan roads," said Scott McGregor, SGI representative, "so we want people to slow down, take care, never drive distracted, never drive impaired. If they're sleepy, pull over where it's safe to do so."

McGregor said that it's important to remember that until there is snow on the ground, construction zones will likely still be active, so plan your route ahead of time and anticipate delays.

“The Labour Day weekend is a busy one for travellers and we need to remember to pay attention to our surroundings,” said Highways and Infrastructure Minister Greg Ottenbreit. “We are all excited for the Labour Day Classic and for one more long weekend this summer, but we still need to remember to be courteous and drive safely on the highway."

A weekly highway construction update is published on www.saskatchewan.ca/residents/transportation/highway-construction-projects/weekly-highway-construction-update to provide the travelling public with the latest details on projects underway to help plan safe and efficient travel.
