It's back to the back lane in Moose Jaw.

It's been a year since the decision was first made to go to front street curbside collection. Studies have been done, planning, budgeting, areas have been converted then there was a $10,000 telephone survey and today, it all means nothing as we revert back to the way things were in the spring of 2017 when it comes to garbage collection in Moose Jaw.

The change to go back to back lane collection came after heavy backlash when council decided to ignore the telephone survey that showed 85% of survey respondents didn't want curbside collection. Even when the budget and potential savings of $150,000 was factored in, 51% still didn't want to switch. Yet, council voted to go ahead with converting the rest of the city.  That drew angry residents to a council meeting, who were able to convince council to rethink the decision.

With the abandonment of the program, there was one change that you'll need to know about through.  Garbage and recycling bins can no longer be left in the alley 365 days a year.  Bins must be pulled back onto your own property once collection has been completed in an effort to make the process more efficient and to protect the bins from damage.
