The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation is urging people to be more cautious of animals on the roads during this time of year.

More animals like moose and deer could wander onto the roads within the next three months.

Executive Director of the SWF Darrel Crabbe says, "They're much more apt to be on the move because it's their mating season or rut as it's called, and only have one thing on their minds usually, and aren't as concerned about traffic."

SGI released that over the past five years, 367 injuries with 1 fatality due to road incidents with animals were reported each year.

The SWF is reminding people to be more alert and to slow down in high-density areas which will be marked with yellow animal-crossing road signage, and to also take extra caution at night because that is when these animals are most active.

If an accident with an animal does happen and the car is no longer able to drive or if the animal is left on the road, the best thing to do is call and notify RCMP immediately.
