You may not have noticed, but Tuesday night at about 9:30 local time, summer arrived in Saskatchewan.

The first day of the new season is referred to as the summer solstice, making June 20th and 21st the longest days of 2017 in terms of sunlight.  The sun rose in Moose Jaw Wednesday at 4:51am and sets at 9:17 pm, giving the city 16 hours and 26 minutes of daylight.

The summer sun is fun to play in, but the the Canadian Cancer Society is issuing reminders that being sun safe is important.  While the incidence of most cancers is on the decline, the frequency of skin cancer is on the rise.

To prevent a summertime sunburn experts advise using a sunscreen with a protective factor of 15 or higher.

And if you were wondering, sun protection is big business.  Every year Canadians spend about $70 million-plus on sun-care products.
