What do you want to do when you grow up?

Students who have been asked that question and have interest in the field of Information Technology (IT) may be one step closer to finding an answer.

Mike Barclay is an instructor at Saskatchewan Polytechnic and he describes what the two-day event is.

"Think IT is an outreach that we do with the Prairie South School Division, and what it does is it allows the students to explore Information Technology, maybe get a chance to get some hands on [experience] with some technology that they may not get the chance to touch otherwise."

Two days is lots of time for some memorable moments but one tends to stand out for Barclay.

"Watching what I give them versus what they create, which is usually a whole new thing, and that's always really rewarding and a lot of fun."

The students who attended Think IT had the chance to explore many different aspects of the IT industry. Students spent time coding, altering programs, learning about the different courses that Saskatchewan Polytechnic has to offer, and going on a campus tour.

Students from across the school division came to the event.

One local student, SoNova Duncan, has expressed interest in the IT field and was happy with how the event worked out.

"Originally I was thinking about going into Graphic Designing and then this opened up more in that for myself."

Duncan also added that they encourage you to ask questions and learn as much as you can.

Think IT is one of three events that Prarie South does to help students explore career paths. The others include Think Construction and Think AG
