Students converged on Vanier Collegiate to learn about how to bring leadership into their schools, and also learn about some of the fun things that can happen with student leadership.

Kids from all over Holy Trinity were at the school Tuesday for the day-long Horizons Leadership program.

Vanier senior Jenna Meili said they were trying to inspire the students and help them develop leadership skills.

“We’re really trying to bring back leadership opportunities that they can use for themselves to develop their leadership abilities, as well as hopefully get something out of the keynote speakers that might resonate with them, and that applies to them so they can go and share their leadership with others and their community,” Meili said.

Meili and four other students at the school shared their experiences at Vanier and some of the other projects they have been involved in. One of the other student leaders, Cheylynne Luch, explained what they are trying to bring out of the students who attended.

“Any sort of positive leadership, we’re trying to promote,” she said. “We’re really trying to promote activism... anything bringing change to your community and that you can make a difference in anything you do.”

Luch said they want those attending to be inspired to bring their leadership skills outside of school.

“We want to see it in everything they do,” she said. “We want to see it in every moment in their lives.”

The five important things they told students to remember about leadership is finding your passion, forget your comfort zone, your vibe attracts your tribe, work hard and lead with positivity.
