It`s a celebration of all the arts that have gone on throughout the year at Riverview Collegiate.

Their 5th annual Young Artist Showcase takes place Friday night at the RVCI gym.

James Irving from Riverview Collegiate believes it's important to showcase the talents of students and to allow them to grow.
"That's part of being an artist, is that you create and compose. And the second half of it, the other side of it, is that you obviously want to share that with the public and the community and hopefully have them appreciate all the hard work that you put into those things. And the students have done hard work all throughout the year, and all different facets of art, and this will be a great chance for them to showcase their talents."

Irving added that there are always going to be students that gravitate towards the artistic world, and this is a great way to find those students and to give them a chance to display their art in a public form.

"Jessica Kreutzer is a solo artist here, she's a singer songwriter here at our school, and she's going to be performing a number of songs that she's been working on", said Irving. "We also have our Riverview Rockband, or second semester rock band, they're called the No-Shows. They'll be performing a number of their songs they've been working on all semester. So that'll be a fun show, we've got a light show and some smoke and mirrors and things like that to jazz up the performance. And then we've got our One Acts crew. They are just coming off the one acts celebration here that was a few weeks ago. And they'll be performing a really cool drama about zombies and things like that. It's funny and entertaining. And finally we have Mr Grass and his art club. They have been working on a whole bunch of visual art pieces and they'll be all on display."

Parents and the school community will be in attendance, though everyone is welcome. It's open to lovers of art and anyone looking for a night of entertainment.Tickets are $10, available at the Riverview office and at the door Friday night.

The doors open at 7:30.
