Prince Edward visits with members of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds during his visit September 17, 2014

It was a thrill for local Royal Watchers, and it made our list of the Top Stories of 2014.  Prince Edward's visit to Moose Jaw in September comes in at number 4 in our Top 5 local stories from the past year.

It was a whirlwind tour of Moose Jaw for the Earl Of Wessex on September 17. His Royal Highness arrived at 15 Wing and was greeted by a military honour guard before meeting with the Snowbirds as well as families of the pilots from the airbase.  Then it was off to the Armouries on Main Street for a mess dinner with the Saskatchewan Dragoons.

"He greeted me, said hello.  It was a very exciting time," said Royal watcher Josiah Audette, who traveled from Regina for a chance to meet the Prince, and he wasn't disappointed.  "Just the opportunity to greet him and look him in the eye...just spectacular."

Moose Jaw's Leslie Fielding was one of the first to meet His Royal Highness at the Armouries.  "He seemed very pleasant," Fielding gushed.  "It was a great honour."

Moose Jaw mayor Deb Higgins was part of the welcoming committee and was thrilled Moose Jaw was on the itinerary.  "It's always exciting to have someone from the Royal family visit the city."

Prince Edward continued on to Regina, and also made stops in Saskatoon and Swift Current.
