The city is offering a standard, blended first aid course that will go all day Wednesday at the Kinsmen Sportsplex

A standard, blended first aid course is recommended for any adult or young adult, said Shelly Howe, recreation program supervisor at the Kinsmen Sportsplex.

“I strongly recommend it,” said Howe. “It is a prerequisite in lots of jobs, and it also just looks good on your resume even if it isn’t a prerequisite for a job or schooling that you need to take.”

Everyone should be well-versed to preventing incidents from happening and helping family and friends when an incident does occur, Howe said. Some of the jobs that would include a standard first aid course include lifeguard, and Howe also knows that people entering into most medical professions and emergency response.

“And actually all organizations have to have certain numbers of people that are trained in first aid, based on the size of their organization,” Howe said.

Blended learning means there is an online portion that needs to be completed before going to the in-person one-day classroom session of about six to eight hours.

“If folks are interested they should register right away and get their online course started and be ready for Wednesday,” said Howe.

The classroom session starts at 8 a.m. at the Sportsplex. The class is $175 to register.

Similar classes are coming in the future as well for those who miss this date, Howe said.
