The Newcomer Welcome Centre is having a party tonight, and all women and girls are invited.

It's the Spring Kickoff Dance Party, and it's a great way to have your ideas heard on fitness events you'd like to see in Moose Jaw.

Dani Van Tassel, Information Advisor at the Newcomer Welcome Centre, said this project started a year ago April, and it's about informing new comers to Moose Jaw and getting their feedback as well. "We're inviting all newcomer women to come out and participate. And talk about what barriers they might find to joining sports of fitness activities in the city. And what kind of things they are interested in joining so we can plan a lot of programming for the following year."

There will be games, snacks, and dancing, and it will be at the Newcomer Welcome Centre located at 423 Main St. north.

Tassel describes a few challenges women face here in Canada, "For some people it's language barriers and cultural differences can be intimidating at first, to go into a fitness class when you don't speak the same language or you're not sure how fitness classes work in Canada. Some women only want female only classes, so that can be a barrier to joining a gym. But I would say also just family commitments as well. A lot of women as busy taking care of their families and looking after other people and haven't had enough time to concentrate on their own fitness and health."

The doors open at 7 pm.
