The 7th annual Toy Days began Thursday and will continue through Saturday at 6pm.

The Salvation Army has teamed up with Canadian Tire to have a bin in the store where people can drop off new and unused toys that will be given to kids for Christmas who otherwise might not have anything under the tree.

The bin will be open for toys drop-offs until Saturday.  Any kind of toy will be accepted, "There's to be a lot of hot toys. We brought in more toys this year to help out people in the community so they could stick around in the community. There seems to be a good need for people in the area to have all kinds of toys," says Ross Leckie from Canadian Tire.

There are toys and games for young boys and girls, but there are also gift cards and gaming accessories that can be purchased and donated for the older kids. The toys will then be added to hampers that will include food, clothes, and other things that families might need.

"This season the need is greater than what we've seen ever in the past. The needs of toys, stuffies, meeting the needs of people in the community. We're noticing right now through our hamper and interview process at our downtown office, the number is already succeeding what they were last year," says Lieutenant Lester Ward, Pastor and Director of Community and Family Services for the Salvation Army.  Ward has estimated that up to 400 families will be in need this Christmas Season.

The Salvation Army is accepting applications and conducting interview processes for hampers until December 10th. If you're looking to apply to receive hampers of food toys, clothing, and much more you can call the front office of the Family Services building next to the Salvation Army at 306-692-5899.
