Most roads are clear to drive on now following last week's snow storm, and Moose Jaw city councillors got their first chance to ask questions about clean up Monday night at their meeting.

"What impediments are there to prevent us from deploying all of our equipment for a 24-hour period?" asked Councillor Brian Swanson during the discussion on how things were handled. City Engineer, Josh Mickleborough responded, "we don't have enough trained operators for a 24-hour response, so to keep the four graders that we've got going on clearing operations, we don't have enough trained operators to do that."

Mickleborough noted they made decisions that might have caused a few issues for a short time, but it was for the greater good of getting residents to a point where they could move from one side of the city to another.

"The focus, in an event like that, was to get the roads opened up so that people could get to where they need to go. It was stored temporarily on medians, in the center lanes and in parking lanes to facilitate the flow of traffic throughout the city," Mickleborough added.

As snow clearing efforts push forward, there is one area that you won't see snow plows and graders move to.

"As it sits right now, there's been some assessment done of residential areas. The rutting outlined in the policy hasn't been met, so we aren't taking any action on residential (areas)."

He added that crews are working throughout the nights during this week to clear snow out of parking lanes and other areas that drivers need to access.
