While many are still lamenting the snow that hit last week, it's going to be good news for farmers.

The Water Security Agency is reporting that the snow should increase the runoff expected this spring, taking many areas from below normal, to at least normal runoff levels. There have been wide spread reports of dry soil conditions after the summer of 2017 that saw little to no rain, forcing crops to use deep sub-soil moisture to get through the growing season.

But the good news is not the same for everyone. There's still a band of extremely dry conditions that starts around Kindersley, slides through Swift Current and Moose Jaw, ending around Esteven. Those areas are still expecting below normal runoff conditions, even with the snow that we've received. Timely rains will likely make the difference for those areas.
