Police detachments in remote locations or smaller communities will now have more resources.

The Saskatchewan Government announced on Tuesday afternoon the passing of the Police Amendment Act. With the Act being updated, it will now see detachments serving places with 500 people or less have the opportunity to join regional police agencies.

“We recognize the benefits that regional policing services could provide for communities,” Corrections and Policing Minister Christine Tell said in a written release. “Allowing rural municipalities and municipalities with populations under 500 to join regional police services is part of our ongoing commitment to enhance policing in Saskatchewan.”

Officials say this update to the act would allow "an opportunity to explore new policing models in the province that focus specifically on the safety of rural citizens".
