The 200 block of Grandiew Street is an area of concern due to slumping

Slumping along the Moose Jaw River is nothing new but residents along Grandview Street are starting to get fairly concerned. So much so, that City Hall is exploring options when it comes to the river bank.

For now, new traffic restrictions are being put into place along the 200 block to try and prevent any further damage from occurring.

"They have already rerouted the school buses that go along that area." explained Councillor Candis Kirkpatrick who sits on the Transportation Advisory Committee. "There was a desire to try to prevent, as much as possible, heavier vehicles from using that. This was to prevent even more from possible happening."

For now, heavy truck traffic won't be allowed on the street and the speed limit will be dropped from 50 to 30km per hour as a precaution, while a more in depth study is done by city administration.

"Residents have concern about the slumping portions of the River Valley getting closer to their properties." said City Engineer Ty Stokes. "Engineering has felt the need to look into these aspects in kind of a more larger look at how we would deal with all of this."

The area along the south side of the city has slowly eroded away over the years and decades with visible portions of the bank now missing.  At one point, some barricades installed along the bank hand fallen down the side of the hill and into the water.
