A sixth death has been recorded due to COVID-19 in the province of Saskatchewan.

The province said in their daily release Wednesday that a resident in their 80s in Northern Saskatchewan died from complications related to COVID-19.

Another 17 positive case has been added to the list of COVID-19 patients, for a total of 383. Eleven are from the far north, five are from the north, including one in Lloydminster, and one is from the Saskatoon area.

With no recorded recoveries Wednesday, there are 86 cases considered active.

There are now ten people in hospital, with three of those people in intensive care in Saskatoon and the rest receiving inpatient care in Saskatoon and Lloydminster.

Of the 383 provincial cases, 137 are travel-related, 154 are community contacts or mass gatherings, 35 have no known exposures and 57 are under investigation by public health.

Thirty-eight of the cases are health care workers, and the province says the infections may not be because of their health care in all instances.

A total of 151 of the cases are from the Saskatoon area, 75 are from the Regina area, 74 are from the north, 57 are from the far north, 15 are from the south and 11 are from the central region.

Thirty-four cases are of people 19 and younger, and 80 are in the 60-and-older range. It’s statistically an even 50-50 split between male and female cases.

Thusfar, 29,106 tests have been performed in Saskatchewan.

A cluster of cases was found in Lloydminster.

“Thirteen cases have been identified, including five health care workers and eight patients, and transmission has occurred in the hospital setting,” the province’s daily COVID-19 brief said. As of today, “the patients are being co-horted in separate units in Lloydminster Hospital.  COVID-19 patients will still be admitted to Lloydminster Hospital.  Non-COVID-19 patients requiring admission may be diverted to another hospital. Key emergency department, emergency surgical and obstetrical services remain available at Lloydminster Hospital.”

The province said this is subject to change based on the public health risk assessment.

Nationally, there have been over 51,200 confirmed cases and nearly 3,000 deaths from COVID-19. There have also been over 20,000 recoveries.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the United States has had nearly 1.1 million positive cases and is approaching 60,000 deaths.
