An initiative throughout Moose Jaw has thousands of people decorating their doors in support healthcare workers, grocery store employees, and those who are helping the rest of us get through this period of isolation.

Jody Oakes started the Facebook group Sharing our Hearts of Moose Jaw with a friend, Jody Chell. The group encouraging people to put paper hearts on their doors to show support to those who are working hard throughout the city to keep us safe and supplied.

“Although we cant take them a coffee and say thank you, or give them a hug in the grocery store" said Oakes, "They just all deserve the biggest hugs. We just thought we could show them the love and support we have with these hearts. Maybe somebody is going home from a long shift or they are just going to work, hopefully they see a heart in the window and know that we are so thankful for them. It might brighten someones day.”

“We know that people aren't able to go out as much as they were, but we just thought it might brighten someones day. We know we’re in a very different time right now and people don't always know what to do, but they want to help and do what they can. We just thought everyone, from the smallest children, to our seniors, could all contribute and make a difference.”

Oakes made sure to mention a big 'thank you' to those who are continuing to work at grocery stores; supplying the shelves and working the tills.

As of Monday, over 2 thousand people are actively participating on the group page, and Jody says shes been amazed - but not surprised - at how much Moose Jaw has gotten behind the initiative.
