The provincial government increased the maximum monthly benefit for the Seniors Income Plan this month. It was also announced the maximum benefit for the program will be increased by $30 a year for the next two years.

The maximum monthly benefit is going from $270 to $300 a month for single pensioners, and from $470 to $530 for a two-pensioner household. The minimum benefits will be increased from $10 to $15.

"Our government is fulfilling our commitment to improve seniors' quality of life through our increase to the Seniors Income Plan," Social Services Minister Lori Carr said. "This extra money will help Saskatchewan seniors live more comfortably and securely as they continue participating in and contributing to communities across the province."

The Seniors Income Plan is an income-tested benefit intended for those who receive little or no income aside from the federal Old Age Security pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement.
