Two Moose Jaw seniors groups are getting together to fight dropping membership in their organizations.

The Cosmo Seniors Centre and the Timothy Eaton Centre are holding a meeting April 28 where people can come together to share issues and ideas. Bob Cobbe of the Cosmo Centre called the meeting.

“The reason we called the reason is both the seniors centres in Moose Jaw... are having financial difficulties, shall we say?,” said Cobbe. “And so we talked to a couple of the councillors and they suggested that we come to a council meeting.”

Cobbe said the councillors advised them to come with many people to brainstorm about what can be done before they approach council.

He said that membership has been dropping off at the clubs in recent years.

“Unfortunately a lot of the condos in the area, they have a common area and they have cards and things like that for the people that live there, so rather than coming to Cosmo or going to Eatons, they stay in the apartment where they live,” Cobbe said.

The existing centres don’t want people to forget about them and the activities they provide to members.

“We’re trying to get the information out to seniors and families of seniors,” Cobbe said. “We have two very nice centres and we would like to have more members come out and join us. There are a lot of things we do that they don’t get from their apartment blocks.”

The meeting at the Cosmo Centre will take place April 28 at 1 p.m.
