The Moose Jaw chapter of Habitat for Humanity is preparing for another information session.

The group held a public meeting May 28 in hopes of finding local families who could potentially become homeowners through Habitat for Humanity.

A similar session is set for Thursday (June 1) at Saskatchewan Polytechnic's Macoun Lounge at 7 p.m.

Chair Bill Harris explained they are having the information nights to try and cut down on the number of disappointed families who apply but don't qualify to begin with.

"(Applicants must be able to) have adequate income to make mortgage payments, albeit, with no interest and no down payment, but they still have to pay for the house with principal-only payments and they have to be prepared to put in 500 hours of 'sweat equity'."

The Moose Jaw chapter will submit the short-list of candidates to their affiliate in Regina, who will have the final say. The goal is to select a family within a month and get construction happening over the coming summer.

Habitat for Humanity has built six homes in Moose Jaw to date.
