As the demand for power grows in the province, SaskPower is shelling out the funds necessary to keep up with the public.

The Crown corporation spent $996 million during the 2017-2018 period, contributing to upgrades with the province's grid and a growing demand for power. SaskPower stated the funds will greatly improve the aging power grid since power demand increased by 5.4% in the last year.

The funds will improve SaskPower's goal of reducing emissions over the next several years as well.

According to Dustin Duncan, the Minister Responsible for SaskPower, he said their goal is to cut emissions by 40% based on levels reported for 2005, by the year 2030. "We continue to show that we can manage and reduce our environmental impact in an economically responsible way," he said.

SaskPower reported a net income of $146 million during the latest fiscal year, $56 million more than in 2016-17.
