Building off of a longstanding partnership with the First Nations Power Authority, SaskPower is looking to engage with Indigenous people and communities in the province on the future of Saskatchewan’s power system.

“SaskPower is beginning extensive engagement and consultation on its power future, a future that has SaskPower achieving net-zero emissions by 2050,” said Mike Marsh, President and CEO of SaskPower, in a written statement. “SaskPower is on track to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50 percent below 2005 levels by 2030 and is now preparing for a future beyond 2030. Engaging with Indigenous peoples of Saskatchewan is critical to this future.”

“We are proud of the long history FNPA has had with SaskPower,” stated Guy Lonechild, President and CEO of First Nations Power Authority. “Saskatchewan’s power future is very exciting, and it’s crucial that the Indigenous peoples of Saskatchewan have a voice in this future – and we look forward to helping capture that voice.”

FNPA will be helping by facilitating engagement sessions throughout the month of September. They will start the sessions on September 8th, and they will wrap up by September 30th. Those who are interested in participating can sign up on the SaskPower website.
