It appears a local post-secondary institute that cancelled school sports and fitness programming is going back on their initial announcement because they don't have their new strategy in place with students preparing to return to class.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic made the announcement at the end of the school year saying that competitive sports and exercise rooms were being terminated in Moose Jaw, Saskatoon and Prince Albert and would be replaced with a wellness strategy that focuses on other factors than just physical activity.

Students were shocked to learn the news, especially when they couldn't get any information about what the wellness strategy would include. Some students learned of the changes when they tried to go to the workout room on campus, only to find the doors locked.

Now school officials have announced they're re-opening their gyms and fitness centres starting August 8th, saying they still don't have a wellness strategy in place so this is a temporary solution.
