Serving as a networking opportunity for employers and potential employees, Sask Polytechnic held their annual Business and Industry Dinner on Thursday night. The event gives students an opportunity to meet business owners and employers from different industries, and potentially get their foot in the door of a workforce.

The night featured keynote speakers Ken and Angela McDougall who are Sask Polytechnic alumni, and owners of McDougall Acres.

Ken and Angela discussed the history of their business, and what type of employment they offer.

"We wanted to make sure they understood that its really important to get your education, its really important to meet your fellow students, know those teachers, you just never know where thats going to go" Ken said following his presentation, "In our experience, the more people you know the more opportunity there is".

Angela said the event is really unlike anything else;

"Its just a great opportunity for students to network and meet the business owners - because theres probably a lot of businesses out there they arent familiar with. Bring them all together in one room and share experiences.

"The night was also a chance to celebrate the Student Award Recipient Oristela Orighoye. Orighoye is an international accounting student who is an entreprenuer, and who has been attending school in Moose Jaw for about 3 years.

"I cant over emphasize enough how important this is. It made me so confident to approach potential employers to tell them what I can offer, and it was that experience I used for other networking events. This is really really important for us, it helps get your voice out there and show what you can do".

All funds raised from the dinner go toward Sask Polytechs student awards program and helps provide students with access to financial assistance.

Sask Polytechnic was also recently ranked 6th on the list of Canadas Top 50 Research Colleges in terms of research income growth.
