'Goodwill towards men' is not just a turn-of-phrase for the team of 13 Commissionaires who staff the security detail at Saskatchewan Polytechnic's Moose Jaw campus.

For their annual Christmas goodwill gesture, the group took up a collection to purchase and donate a much-needed item for and to Moose Jaw's Riverside Mission:  underwear.

The Commissionaires contacted Canadian garment company, Stanfield's, who also made a donation.

Al Vance is a Master Warrant Officer, and the security supervisor at Sask. Polytech, "Every year we reach out to individuals or community groups. This year we reached out to Riverside Mission, and we asked them what their biggest requirement was for their clients. And they told us that underwear would probably be the most sought-after item."

Rachel Mullens is the interim manager at Riverside Mission. "[The donation] is going to mean a lot to the guys who come through and utilize our facilities or who come in just for something warm to wear in the winter. We're always struggling to keep long underwear and long underwear shirts in stock. This will be amazing for them when they walk through, and we can give them warm undergarments to wear through the winter months."

Along with the Commissionaires' donation of 10 pairs of men's long johns, 10 fleece hoodies, and 13 men's turtlenecks., Stanfield's, which is based in Nova Scotia, provided 50 men's tee-shirts and 50 pairs of men's briefs.

Stanfield's also offered a deep discount and paid the shipping costs.
