A countless number of Saskatchewan communities and recreation organizations can breathe a sigh of relief after Saskatchewan Lotteries announced yesterday they'd continue to share their proceeds for at least the next five years.

The agreement is between the Government of Saskatchewan, Sask Sport, SaskCulture, the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association, and Saskatchewan Lotteries. 3.75% of the lottery licence fee is paid to the government. In 2017-2018 - after prizes and expenses were paid - 28% was returned to communities.

"I think having this agreement [is] number one, but the per cent staying the same gives stability to the sector," Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Gene Makowsky said.

According to Saskatchewan Lotteries they handed out $54.2 million to sport, culture and recreation organizations in their 2017-18 fiscal year.
