As many residents are cleaning up after their holiday gatherings or are getting ready for their last one this weekend, you'll need to hold on to your recyclables until next week.

"Sarcan closes the week between Christmas and New Years every year to give our staff some time off to travel, if they need to, and to be with family and friends over the holidays," explained Sydney Smith, Senior Communications Officer. "We'll be back on the 2nd of January and ready to help with all of the holiday recycling."

"The first week back is all hands on deck, all of our chutes will be open, and we're hoping to get people through really quickly and not cause too many line ups. One of our new ways to do that is we now have a service called 'Stop and Go', where you can bring your containers into the depot and we can transfer your payment electronically."

Residents also have the option to swing by Sarcan and pick up their money later in the day after dropping off their recyclables for the Stop and Go service also.

Another new feature at Sarcan will be the expansion of the electronic products they will be accepting in the new year.

"The electronics products recycling association has been working with the government on 'Phase 3' they're calling it, of electronics recycling. They're opening up new products, the biggest one for us is going to be counter top microwaves, they will be able to be recycled, as well as floor standing printers, things like a GPS and other handheld devices."

Smith noted that they will accepting these new items shortly, however, the new program doesn't officially roll out until May of 2018.
