The Salvation Army kicked off their Christmas Kettle Campaign last Friday, setting up at 6 different locations throughout Moose Jaw.

Kettles will be set up for the next few weeks at the Moose Jaw Coop, Walmart, Superstore, downtown Liquor Store, Town 'n' Country Mall, and the Salvation Army Thrift Store.

The organization will be using the kettles to raise funds through cash donations, but they will also be setting aside a few days to collect toy donations as well.

Monday, November 30 the Salvation Army will be set up at Mosaic Place collecting toy donations, Tuesday they will be at Murray GM, and Wednesday and Thursday they will be working in conjunction with the three local radio stations to raise toy donations at Canadian Tire.

Toy donations collected will be distributed to families in need this Christmas, and will be used to set up a toy shop at the Salvation Army Church.

Here's Cadet Almeta Ward with the Salvation Army.

"This year there's a new thing we're doing; a toy shop! So, when the clients come in, we will have it all set up like a store. It will be set up by age groups, with boys on one side and girls on the other. Parents will be able to come in and choose what we have for their child."

The shop will be set up on December 14, and Pastor Lester Ward with the Salvation Army explains how it will work.

"Clients will be escorted with a volunteer to their age group table. They can point at which item they want for their child, and it gives them a real opportunity to feel like they're going through a shopping experience, rather than 'Here's your toy, hopefully, it's what your child is looking for'."

Those looking to take part will have to call in advance, and they will be given a select day and time to come to the shop and pick up their toys.

The Salvation Army is still looking for volunteers as well, both to work their kettles throughout the town, and to help out with their hamper program.
