September 15th is the day Canadians across the country will come together to raise money for a great cause in the honour of Terry Fox.

Every year, all funds raised go directly to the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research, with Saskatchewan alone raising over a $1 million dollars a year. Nation wide, around $25 million is raised annually.

Wynter Philip, with the Terry Fox Foundation, said the funds raised are put back into the foundation and it's research.
"All the funds we raise go to cancer research directly. There's the Tery Fox Research Institute, that operates here in Canada. They do focus a lot on multi site cancers, precision medine, hard to treat cancers, but there's no specific cancer that we strictly focus on. And there's lots of new things going on all the time with the institute. New to this year we have the Marathon of Hope cancer centres. So the institute has set up a lot of centres that are breaking down a lot of barriers in the country. Making the same research and medical advice available to the residents of Moose Jaw, same as Toronto City. We're just reaching all the way across the country to make sure everyone gets the same treatment."

Philip said that any way you want to fundraise is perfect.
"We are moving more towards online, but certainly anything individuals want to do on their own is great. Creating teams for the run is also awesome. We have 35 communities that participate across Saskatchewan on September 15th, as well as around 580 schools that particapte a little later in September. So feel free to donate to your students as well through the schools."

Local organizer of the event Craig Hemmingway said they are looking for volunteers for the days events.
"There are a couple folks who have stepped up and offered to help out, and certainly if there's anybody else who's interested in lending a hand there's a few things that will need to be set up with the course. And some of the other fun, the barbecue, and some other things we're looking to put in place. So yeah by all means if anybody wants to lend a few hours to helping to pull off the event they can certainly do that."

More information on Moose Jaw's run can be found on facebook here as an event. 10:30 am is when registration opens, followed by an 11:30 start for the run itself. There are 2 courses, 2 and 5 kilometres, and they are not timed. Giving people the chance to complete it as fast or as slow as they would like.

The location for the run has moved from previous years to start at Elk's Field, on the west end of the city, 16 hundred block of Caribou Street west. Hemmingway said "one of the reasons for a new location this year, Elk's Field, is it's adjacent to a city walking trail. So we'll be utilizing that for the run. And it will head north up through Simcoe and VLA area."

If you would like to volunteer, email terryfoxrunmj@gmail.com.

Hemmingway said "about 12:30 we'll have the barbecue fired up, when people are done they can have some ffod. We'll have some games on hand, we got bouncy castles for the kids. We want to make it a big event. You don't have to devote a ton of time, a couple of hours you're in and out, and you've contributed to cancer research."

Registration is now open, welcome to everyone, and can be found here.
